What we take

We buy PlayStation 5 consoles in the Slim, disc and digital editions, along with PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in the original, OLED and Switch 2 versions. If it is a console sitting unused after an upgrade, or one the kids outgrew, it is worth asking about. Retro consoles turn up now and then too, and older hardware is genuinely worth asking about rather than assuming nobody wants it. Physical games, extra controllers and headsets that go with any of these consoles are worth bringing too, whether or not they match the specific console you are selling — a stack of PS4 or Switch games sold on its own is still worth asking about, console included or not. If the console has an external hard drive or SSD plugged in for extra storage, that drive is a separate piece from the console itself — unplug it and bring it along too, since it is easy to forget it is even there once it has been sitting behind the TV for a few years.

Condition, in plain language

A console with scuffs or sticker residue on the case is completely normal. What matters more is whether the console powers on, reads discs (if it is a disc model), and connects to a TV without issue. A disc drive that reads some discs but not others, a fan that has gotten noticeably louder over time, a console that overheats and shuts itself off during longer play sessions, or a controller that drifts or double-clicks are common issues on older hardware and worth describing rather than treating as a reason not to ask. A console that will not power on at all, or one that shows a hardware error on startup, is still worth mentioning — describe what happens and we will look at it rather than you guessing what that means on your own.

Before you meet us

Sign out of your PSN, Xbox or Nintendo account on the console if you can, and consider deauthorizing it from your account the same way you would with any other device tied to a login. This matters most if you plan to keep buying digital games on a new console under the same account, since a console left signed in can still show your purchased library to whoever has it next. The bigger practical issue on consoles is usually missing pieces, not accounts — controllers, power cables and HDMI cables are easy to lose track of over the years, and a console with only one working controller or no cables at all is still worth bringing. Just mention upfront what you do and do not have, since a complete console with two controllers, cables and the box is a different situation to describe than a console alone, and we would rather know before the meetup than sort it out there.

How the meetup works

Tell us the console, edition and what accessories you have — controllers, cables, games — through the form, or text us a photo of everything together. We set up a meetup in the Albany area or come to you. At the meetup we power the console on, check that it reads discs or boots properly, confirm what controllers and cables came along, and tell you plainly what we can buy that day. If you are bringing games or accessories separately from a console, mention that too, since we look at those the same way whether or not a matching console comes with them. Bring the power cable and HDMI cable if you still have them, even if a controller or two has gone missing over the years — a console alone is still worth setting up a meetup for. Paid in cash on the spot for anything we take, and anything we cannot use stays with you — we will tell you honestly rather than leave you guessing.

What's the difference between the PS5 disc and digital editions, and does it matter which one I have?

Tell us which one you have when you reach out. The disc edition has a disc drive and the digital edition does not, and knowing which is which just helps us look at the right thing when we meet.

Should I deauthorize my console from my account before I bring it?

It is worth doing if you can, the same as with any other device tied to a login. It is less critical on consoles than on phones or watches, but still good practice.
