Do I need the original box and charger?

No. We look at the phone itself. If you have the box, cable or a case, bring them along, but their absence does not change whether we will look at your phone.

What if my phone is still on a payment plan with my carrier?

Tell us upfront. A phone still being paid off is a different situation than one that is fully owned, and we would rather know before the meetup than find out there.

What if I forgot my Apple ID or Google password and can't sign out?

Try to recover it before you come. A phone still locked to an account through Activation Lock or Find My Device is not something we can do anything with, no matter its condition, because a phone locked to somebody else's account cannot be used by us or anyone after us.

Do you come to me, or do I have to meet you somewhere?

Both are options. We meet sellers in the Albany area, or drive out to you when that is easier — tell us what works and we will set it up.

If it is a phone you would recognize from the last several years, bring it and we will look. A phone that is cracked, stuck on a lock screen, or simply old does not rule it out on its own — tell us what you have and let us make that call in person rather than guessing from a description.

Condition, in plain language

Working and turning on is the best case, but it is not the only case we look at. Cracked screens, dead batteries, a home button that no longer works, water damage, a phone that will not hold a charge — describe it honestly and we will still take a look. What we cannot do anything with is a phone reported lost or stolen, or one still locked to its original owner's account with no way to clear that lock. Beyond that, condition mostly changes what we can say about a phone, not whether it is worth bringing. A device with a cracked screen and a fully working phone underneath is a different animal than one that no longer powers on at all, and we will tell you plainly which one you have.

Before you meet us

A few things matter more than cosmetic condition. First, sign out of iCloud (on an iPhone) or your Google account (on a Samsung or Pixel) and turn off Find My iPhone or Find My Device. A phone still locked to someone else's account through Activation Lock is not something we can do anything with, even if it powers on and looks great, because there is no way for us or the next owner to use it. Second, if the phone is still being paid off on a carrier installment plan, that does not automatically rule it out, but be upfront about it — a phone still owed on a device payment plan is a different conversation than one that is fully paid off, and we would rather know going in than find out at the meetup. Third, back up anything you want to keep, since a factory reset is part of the handoff. If you are not sure how to sign out of your account or do not remember the password, sort it out before you come rather than at the meetup — we cannot get past someone else's account lock, no matter what the phone is.

How the meetup works

You tell us the make, model and condition through the form on this page, or text us a photo directly. We set up a time and place in the Albany area, or drive out to you if that is easier — either way, nothing gets shipped and nothing sits in a box waiting on a label. At the meetup, we look the phone over with you standing there, ask a few questions about carrier and lock status, and tell you plainly whether it is something we can buy that day. If it is, you get paid in cash before you leave, and we confirm the device is signed out and wiped in front of you. If it is not something we can use, we will say so honestly on the spot instead of stringing you along, and you keep your phone. Either way, you are not waiting on an email or a check in the mail.
